Weekend Getaway a Short Drive from Dallas

We decided to take a quick trip to close out our Summer to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. I know what you’re thinking: Really? Oklahoma? But this place is seriously breathtaking. Take a minute to peruse Broken Bow Google images and you’ll see what I mean.

Broken Bow, Oklahoma is only about a three hour drive from Dallas and is the perfect location for a quick weekend getaway.

After scrolling through several adorable available cabins online, our friend found the Blue Bird Chalet and we knew it was perfect. This cabin is nestled in the woods a short drive from Beavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake and is the perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet and nature.

This place is equally rustic and cozy, with extraordinary attention to detail in every corner. Fixed with modern appliances and a drool-worthy kitchen with so much natural light, this place practically begs you to stay in and cook every day. And that we did.

The cabin would be ideal for a big group of friends or a family. It has two bedrooms, both equipped with flat screen TVs that I highly doubt you’ll even use because the views are enough to feast your eyes on, and an upstairs game room loft that doubles as another bedroom. In all, the cabin sleeps about 8 people comfortably.

My favorite part of this cabin is the wrap-around porch that offered us the most incredible views, a hot tub, and a beautiful grill. The meals we cooked out there were some of the best I have ever had. If we had no choice but to stay put at the cabin the whole weekend I wouldn’t have minded. This place is that special. BUT… there are also so many special places to explore nearby that we couldn’t not take advantage.

The Mountain Fork River was a cool and refreshing 58 degrees that felt like heaven after a long afternoon of hiking and exploring. Apparently it is also a very popular spot for trout fishing all year round. Who knew?

Anyway, we made sure to get as much out of our short trip as we possibly could, so we couldn’t pass up the bountiful opportunities for fun. We kayaked down the river, swam in the lake, went boating and tubing, and even ziplined across the lake. It was the perfect ending to our Summer. We are already planning to come again next Summer and cannot wait to try all the other things this little town has to offer (ex. Winery/brewery Tours, horseback riding, off-roading, etc.).
