What I Want to Bake this Holiday Season
Ahhhh…. Smell that? That’s the sweet smell of my future kitchen bakin’ up all the goodies this holiday season.
We finally move into our new apartment this week and after couch hopping and several hotel stays this last month, I am SO excited to settle in and really make this place our home. And what’s a better way to make a place a home than baking, right?
I absolutely love this time of year, and while I don’t consider myself a master baker, I do especially love to bake this time of year. And because this our first Holiday season as a married couple, I’m feeling drawn to recipes rooted in tradition.
Linzer Cookies
My best friend and I used to sit in the back of her mom’s station wagon after soccer practice and eat boxes of these cookies. I’ve loved them forever but I never tried making some of my own. Did you know these cookies were adapted from a torte recipe in Linz Austria? Austrian and German immigrants brought the recipe to America, and a musician named Franz Holzlhuber baked and sold them when he ran low on money. Who knew?
This Raspberry Linzer Cookie recipe is simple but the outcome definitely makes a statement. Just look how beautiful these are.
Authentic Irish Apple Cake
This. Cake. Does this look delicious or what? I am of mostly Irish decent so I know I want to incorporate a little of my heritage in this season’s celebrations. This Authentic Irish Apple Cake has me drooling over the photos alone. I cannot wait to taste it! And this may be an unpopular opinion, and though I do love a great pumpkin recipe, I much prefer the flavor of apples in the Fall. Who’s with me?
Gingerbread Cookies
Is it really the season if Gingerbread cookies are not made? I’m don’t think so. This Gingerbread Cookie Recipe has been pinned for a few years now and I have not had the chance to make it but the reviews are amazing. I hope to get a few of my girlfriends together, or even my nieces and nephews, and decorate little faces on them.
Frosted Sugar Cookies
I have made these Sugar Cookies many many times for various events and holidays and they are truly THE best. I like the flavor of this royal icing recipe from Kitchen Meets Girl, but the color starts to get hazy after a few days. So if any of you know how to prevent that, let me know. I definitely need to order some new baking supplies and I’ve been eyeing this 30-Piece Holiday Cookie Decorating Kit that I think will do the trick.
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Pie. It’s one of my absolute favorites. My family has always made the recipe on the back of the Libby’s Pumpkin can but apparently they’ve fashioned a whole new recipe that’s better than the classic. I already LOVED the classic recipe but I’m looking forward to trying this one.
Hopefully this post gave you some baking inspiration. I love looking for new recipes to try so if you have any please share them with me. What are you making this holiday season?
