The Perfect DIY Hostess Gift Idea That Gets You Invited Back Again and Again!
This post is all about a last-minute DIY Hostess Gift Idea.
How cute is this DIY Hostess Gift Idea? I made this Wine Bottle Bouquet for a friend’s birthday, but it would also make the perfect hostess gift, Bridal Shower Gift, or Mother’s Day Gift- don’t ya think?
It’s nearing the end of Summer, which means that the season of holiday parties and events is just around the corner. And trust me – I know just how busy and chaotic the hustle and bustle of it all can feel. So don’t let finding a last-minute hostess gift add to your stress because this is a quick, budget friendly, and easy to D.I.Y gift idea that your hostess (or mom, sister, friend, or colleague) is sure to love.
Step By Step DIY Hostess Gift Idea
Pick Your Base
I chose a bottle of wine that I know my friend loves to create my wine bottle bouquet, but you could also use whiskey, brandy, or any liquor bottle that has a long neck.
The recipient doesn’t drink? Are you looking for a more inexpensive hostess gift idea? No Problem- Opt for a bottle of their favorite soda or sparkling water. The options are really endless and so easy to customize to your recipient.
Trader Joe’s has some great-tasting wines that are so affordable and beautiful.
Select your florals
This is where the fun part begins! Get creative and don’t be afraid to add your unique flare to it.
I opted for Hydrangeas, Gerbera Daisies, Lilies, Roses, and Carnations- but you could use whatever combination you wish.
Using artificial florals would also be a great alternative if you want to be mindful of allergies, steer clear of potentially toxic florals to pets, or simply create something that can be enjoyed long-term. The Dollar Store has some great faux florals and stems that are equally as beautiful as they are affordable.
Purchase Floral Foam
I picked up this FloraCraft® WetFōM Brick Green at Michaels for about $5. This floral foam is perfect for molding to the top of the wine bottle because it is soft and malleable while still maintaining its sturdy form.
Assemble Your Bouquet
Carefully remove the foam from the packaging and set it on a hard surface such as a table or kitchen counter. Flip your bottle upside down and position it cap/cork-side down over the center of the floral. Press the bottleneck into the floral foam until it has pierced through the foam completely. Use a knife to carefully cut foam to the desired size (I recommend cutting it to slightly wider than the width of the bottle). Remove the bottle and set aside.
If you are using real florals, fill a large bowl with water and place the foam into the water. Let it absorb the water for about 1-2 minutes.
Pro Tip: Wrap the foam in cellophane to prevent the water from dripping down the bottle.
Place the foam back onto the bottle to begin assembling your bouquet. I cut each of my stems to about 2-3 inches long. Attach your stems to the foam by gently inserting the cut part of the stem into the foam. I started with my largest florals: the Hydrangeas, making sure to create a balanced base by placing them evenly around the foam. I then moved on to my second largest floral: Lilies. Filling in the holes with the smaller flowers- the roses, daisies, and carnations.
There is a possibility you may experience some water leaking from your floral foam- don’t panic. Gently wrap a paper towel around the bottle and the leaking should eventually stop relatively quickly.
Once you’re happy with your floral arrangement it is ready to gift!
BONUS POINTS– if you want to take this wine bottle bouquet just a step further you could wrap the bottle with tissue paper. Simply lay out your tissue paper of choice and place the bottle bouquet in the center of the tissue. Pull the corners of the tissue paper up towards the base of the floral arrangement and secure the paper in place with ribbon.
If you liked this DIY hostess gift idea, come back every week to see more. I want to see your wine bottle bouquets- so if you make one tag me in a photo over on Instagram @thehaleydaily – Happy gifting!

@itsthehaleydaily Wine Bottle Bouquet! Wine + Flowers = the best gift idea! I made this Wine Bottle Bouquet for a friend's birthday, but it would also make the perfect hostess gift, Bridal Shower Gift, or Mother's Day Gift- don't ya think? It's so easy but is sure to impress! I purchased the foam blocks at Michaels Craft store but you could also find them on Amazon. Fun Fact: I worked as a florist while in college and loved creating my own arrangements. I used a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from Stags Leap Winery but this would also be so cute on a bottle of Diet Coke or Topo Chico. If you make one, tag me so I can see! #hostessgiftideas #bridalshowergifts #mothersdaygiftideas #giftidea #winebottlebouquet #stagsleapwinery #thehaleydaily ♬ original sound – Haley De La Rosa
